Shenzhen Port Sets New Record for Container Throughput in 2024

In 2024, Shenzhen Port achieved a record-breaking container throughput of 33.38 million TEUs, marking a year-on-year increase of 11.7%, the highest growth rate in the past decade. Shenzhen Port continues to hold its position as the fourth-largest port in the world.
In addition to container throughput, Shenzhen Port has also set new historical highs in several other areas, including cargo handling, automobile sea transport, and LNG throughput. For the first time, the port’s sea export of automobiles (including KD units) exceeded 210,000 units. The LNG throughput surpassed 13.36 million tons, maintaining its position as the number one port for LNG handling in China for four consecutive years. The port added six new combined port routes and four inland ports, bringing the total number of combined ports and inland ports to 62.
“The Yushi Port Regular Scheduled Train” was selected as one of the typical cases for developing national container rail-water intermodal brand routes. Additionally, Shenzhen's inland ports have been approved for the first time for export tax rebate policies, with the number of qualifying ports expanding to 5 inland ports in Shenzhen and 44 sea ports.
Shenzhen has signed friendly port agreements with Darwin Port and Panama's Balboa Port, increasing the total number of friendly ports to 28.
With the goal of becoming an international integrated transportation hub and a globally influential logistics center, Shenzhen is dedicated to accelerating its infrastructure development. The city has successfully implemented the new development concept, building a large-scale transportation network across land, sea, air, and rail. The city’s infrastructure achievements have played a significant role in ensuring efficient public transportation and providing strong logistical support for Shenzhen’s high-quality economic and social development.
In 2024, Shenzhen’s transportation, warehousing, and postal industries’ added value exceeded 100 billion yuan for the first time, with a year-on-year growth rate of over 12%. Shenzhen was also selected as one of the third batch of cities for national comprehensive freight hub development, and the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Multimodal Logistics Public Information Service Hub” project was included in the first batch of national pilot projects for cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the transportation and logistics sector.
Additionally, Shenzhen has worked to enhance warehouse design standards, adding more than 190,000 square meters of high-standard warehouses within the city and over 1 million square meters outside the city. The city also launched China’s first China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway intermodal export train, saving 2-3 days in customs clearance time.
At the 18th China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Supply Chain Expo, international exhibitors accounted for 15% of the total, with an expected transaction volume of over 25 billion yuan.
